Realignment of Business and Financial Services Teams

May 25, 2022

Division colleagues,

As part of DFA’s ongoing effort to improve service times, streamline processes and create synergies in the campus community, Business and Financial Services (BFS) will realign some of our core teams. This alignment uses the strengths of BFS team members who perform similar bodies of work, allowing us to balance our service offerings.

Effective June 1, the changes are as follows:

  • A new department has been created that combines the current Accounts Payable, Travel & Expense Management, and Tax Services teams. This team is looking for a new director to lead this collaborative body of work. Please keep your eyes out for an internal posting in the next weeks. We encourage everyone interested to apply.

  • A new department titled Financial and Accounting Services combines the core functions of the current General Accounting and Treasury teams. Lead Accountant Devan Hinojosa has been appointed as interim director of this team. Devan joined General Accounting department in 2018 as an accounting intern. Through his tenure, he has held various roles, ranging from accounts receivable and auditing to foundation accounting and period-close procedures. We appreciate his commitment to serving in this interim role, where he can apply his breadth of UC Merced accounting experience and serve the General Accounting team and the university as a whole. A full internal and external recruitment is planned for a permanent director role.

  • Cashiering Services will combine with Student Business Services, reporting to SBS Director Chris Robinson.

The realigned departments, along with Project Portfolio Financial Management, will report directly to Assistant Controller Kelli Maxey.

A final note: I want to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to interim Director of General Accounting Jennifer Riedeman, who is departing UC Merced after eight years of service to the university to become Financial Director of the City of Livingston. Friday is her last day with us. Good luck, Jennifer!

Sincerely,

Amanda Preston-Nelson

Associate Vice Chancellor and Controller
