Expansion of Eligibility for Paid Sick Leave PPSM:
UC Sick Leave Policy Prior to 2025:
Employees covered under the University of California Staff Personnel Policy for Staff Members (Staff & Students) accrued paid sick leave if they were on pay status at least one-half of the working hours of a month or quadriweekly cycle in which it is earned.
UC Sick Leave Policy Effective 1/1/2025:
Employees covered under the University of California Staff Personnel Policy for Staff Members (Staff & Students) begin accruing paid sick leave at a rate proportionate to their hours on pay status.
Accrual Calculation: Sick leave is accrued at a factor of 0.046154 per hour (approximately eight hours of sick leave per month for an employee on full-time pay status). Eligible employees begin to accrue sick leave at the start of their appointments.
- Update: The threshold for sick leave accrual has been removed, meaning all employees in eligible titles can now accrue paid sick leave, regardless of their appointment percentage.
- Eligible employees may use sick leave in accordance with the PPSM policy.
