COVID-19 related to GLACIER

GLACIER Requirements for Nonresident Employees

GLACIER is a secured web-based Nonresident Alien (NRA) tax compliance system that foreign visitors can use to provide their immigrant and tax data to UCLA (administered by UCLA for UCM) via the internet 24 hours a day. GLACIER helps determine tax residency, withholding rates and income tax treaty eligibility. GLACIER also manages NRA’s paperwork, maintains NRA’s data and prepares tax forms and required statements.

If you are a new employee to UC Merced, you will receive an email from UCLA after your payroll record has been established with information regarding your GLACIER requirements; instructions for creating a record and submitting required documentation. This MUST be done to ensure appropriate alignment of your tax reporting status while working in the United States.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR SUBMITTING NEW OR UPDATING DOCUMENTS TO UCLA GLACIER DUE TO COVID-19 OPERATIONAL IMPACTS

March 20, 2020

Nonresidents Can Now submit Documents to CRU online

Effective immediately, nonresidents with a GLACIER record can submit their GLACIER forms and supporting documents to the UCLA CRU team by opening a case.

The UCLA team is working remotely, therefore it is important that all GLACIER forms be submitted by opening a case rather than through regular mail.

Please note that forms will still need to be printed, signed and dated, but you can then take a picture and upload them through the link instead of mailing them. However, if there are any tax treaty documents, you must print and sign with a wet signature and it must be submitted as a PDF in order to be accepted.

If updating your work authorization at this time, please contact UC Merced Payroll Services. Information updates related to work authorizations during the campus closure can be found here.

As the University faces an array of challenges related to the COVID-19 global pandemic, we want to ensure the campus community of our commitment to upholding day-to-day business operations. We will continue to refine processes and communicate regularly as more details become available.
